Since it is still winter lets take a look at a Snow-Plane groomer working on the snowmobile trails in Cable and Namakagon Wisconsin
How to use kg/ha or bu/ac
Lets assume we are growing some Snowbird spring wheat.
We plan to grow 200 plants per square meter, the germination is about 90% so we need 220 seeds per square meter in the metric version.First how it is done with bushel and acre
1 bushel of wheat is 60 LBS or 27.2 kg
We want to seed 20.6 seed’s per square feet which brings us to
898401 seed’s per acre = 85.1 LBS or 1.42 bushel per arce if we have a
thousand kernel weight of 43 g.
160 ac = 64.75 ha
Now how it is done with kg and hectare
We want 200 Plants per square meter but have a germinationrate of 90% so we have to seed 220 seeds per square meter.
1000 Kernel weight is 43 g so 1 Kernel = 0.043 g
222 Seeds are 9.5 g per square meter and 95.46 kg/ha
200 Plants germinate and develop 300 heads with 30 kernels to a head.
That makes 9000 kernels per square meter and with a 1000 Kernel weight
of 43 g we can look forward to a yield of 387 g = 0.0387 kg per square meter
This would be a 3,8 t/ha yield . If the grain has a protein content of 10% the plant and root uptake will be around 96 kg/ha Nitrogen.
Is the protein 11.5% the plant and root uptake will be about 111 kg/ha of Nitrogen.
